Future Projects | Al Ain Zoo

Elephant Safari

This is the only project of its kind in the Arabian Gulf that gives visitors the opportunity to enjoy watching these amazing African animals up close in the heart of the wildlife that resides at Al Ain Zoo. It includes a rare global diversity of species that mixes a large group of antelopes, lions, elephants and others.

Gorilla Sanctuary

Al Ain Zoo is home to a band of gorillas that includes four males, we are the only Zoo to house this number of the critically endangered species.

The Sanctuary includes 3 indoor and outdoor exhibition areas, walkways and the “Jewel of Africa” area. This allows visitors to witness the gorillas living their daily lives naturally on an area of 8.725 square meters in an environment that simulates their natural African habitat.

Reptile Park

The largest reptile enclosure in the Middle East is being developed and rebuilt in a 11,500 square meter area located close to the current train station.
The Reptile Park contains indoor and outdoor exhibits and fun walkways populated by more than 100 species of reptiles from all over the world, including crocodiles, turtles, lizards and snakes.

Koala Land

Located in front of the Education Centre, Koala Land, the only one of its kind in the Middle East, covers an area of 1,650 square meters and offers visitors a fascinating opportunity to enjoy Australian nature while watching these cute marsupials from characteristic wooden buildings.

Chimpanzee Forest

Chimpanzee Forest is the biggest open-air chimpanzee exhibit in the Middle East, a new natural habitat containing what is considered to be the most intelligent animals after humans and one of the largest known primate species in the world.

Al Ain Nature Reserve

Al Ain Zoo is the only nature reserve in the Middle East that has been established to preserve the natural habitats of so many animals and is currently home to approximately 400 threatened species, including the Houbara, the Arabian sand cat and the Arabian oryx. The Zoo also relies on the local plant diversity found around the site that provides a model for the natural wildlife of Al Ain and the United Arab Emirates.

Sand Cat Breeding Centre

The world’s first centre dedicated entirely to these rare animals, is now home to the largest number of Arab sand cats in captivity in the world, with between 15 and 20 of the animals in breeding groups over an area of 279 square meters.

Rescue Centre

The only centre specialized in the care and rehabilitation of dangerous animals in the city of Al Ain, the unit contains a range of facilities that contribute to providing 24-hour care and attention for all the animals in its protection.

Penguin Beach

The first outdoor exhibition for penguins in the Middle East is set on an area of 275 square meters. It consists of an external area for the penguins with a water pool and a man-made beach. It also contains a sophisticated system for treatment and purification of water, walkways for visitors, and is landscaped with sculptures of different types of animals.

Elephant Exhibit

The Elephant exhibit, extending over an area of 6,200 square meters, is the home of a pair of African elephants, the biggest and largest animal inhabiting the continent of Africa, especially in sub-Saharan Africa and the rainforests in Central and West Africa. It is landscaped with natural local plants in addition to trees and shrubs that grow in their natural environment.

Event Pavilion

Event Land is based on the Zoo’s commitment to providing a suitable area to host various events and festivals for government and private institutions, and partners of the Zoo. A variety of activities and events can be staged in this area, which will provide visitors with a modern and unique experience.

Sand Cat Conservation Centre

The largest centre specialized in preserving the Arabian sand cat, Al Ain Zoo Sand cat conservation centre is home to the largest number of Arabian sand cats in the world and houses them in their own unique environment. It is considered to be the only zoo in the Middle East with such a dedicated wildlife conservation area.
