The Sheikh Zayed Desert Learning Centre narrates the story of Abu Dhabi’s culture, environment, and heritage through its five galleries that form a unique melody formed by the insightful thoughts of the late Sheikh Zayed, who was and still the first supporter of UAE culture, and enhance it within the Emiratis identity, and to announce the tolerance as the core of the emirate society amongst the world cultures. The following points summarize the message and story of each of our five galleries:

Established to honor the interest of the founder of our beloved country, wildlife, it tells the story of our ancestors' association with the desert and unites people around the insightful vision of the late Sheikh Zayed in establishing a modern state and leading a united people. The hall aims to publish the biography of the father Zayed and his accomplishments, as it contains four screens, each video lasts for two minutes, to summarize in its entirety the following chapters:

  1. Chapter One: This chapter deals with a glimpse of Sheikh Zayed's genesis and education, and his diplomatic personality, which has arisen in his counseling of various segments of society, and he has formed an environmental awareness at an early age.
     
  2. Chapter Two: A new chapter tells the story of the father Zayed’s faith - may God have mercy on him - that the real wealth of the homelands are the sons of the homeland, so he was keen to achieve development and prosperity for his people by providing various educational, health, housing, and agricultural services.
     
  3. Chapter Three: Presents Sheik Zayed's efforts to balance urban development, modernity, and environmental conservation by establishing various nature conservation programs such as Al Ain Zoo in 1968 and the International Fund for Houbara and Natural Reserves.
     
  4. Chapter Four: It Highlights how Sheikh Zayed accomplishments in the environmental field won international and worldwide recognition; he was honored with nearly 18 awards and certificates from environmental organizations during his life and after his death to immortalize achievements and journey that the whole world mentions such as:

    • Earth Champion Award

 

The geological record of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, where it narrates the history of the land of Abu Dhabi for the first time in a time sequence that starts from 500 million years to the present day, and how our land differed and formed in each time period and the evidence that tells the story of these changes such as fossils and archaeological finds. Also, a distinguished experiment is available that explains precisely the nature of the earth affected by the erosion factors, such as heat, water, and wind, which contributed to shaping the different environmental terrain of Abu Dhabi that we see now.

The tour includes in this exhibition a unique experience and an exclusive experience for a trip in an amazing model that simulates the natural environment of the caves and peaks of Jebel Hafeet, and our cultural guides narrate for the first time the story of discovering the caves and what was found in it with an interesting story style

 

The tour at Abu Dhabi Living world begins with the story of establishing Al Ain Zoo at the hands of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan - may God have mercy on him - to preserve the Arabian Oryx from extinction and how years of efforts resulted in the launch of the Arabian Oryx in 2007 by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan - Crown Prince of the Emirate Abu Dhabi - To complete Sheikh Zayed's dream and turn it into a reality, we strive continuously with great efforts to continue preserving nature in the UAE and protecting endangered species all over the world. Also, the exhibition includes the story of preserving endangered birds such as Houbara and efforts to preserve flamingos and provide an appropriate environment for them in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.

The gallery presents an experiment on the environmental survey of Abu Dhabi from the 1960s to the present day. We aim to highlight the environmental diversity and that the Emirate of Abu Dhabi is distinguished by the diversity of environments and its wonderful details such as The biodiversity in Jebel Hafeet and Abu Dhabi coast, sand dunes, desert environment, and anecdotes nature that is focusing in the methods of adaption in this desert climate, water scarcity, and temperatures.

 

This gallery takes us to the stories of the beautiful past of Abu Dhabi and how it shaped the interaction of our ancestors with the environment “UAE Heritage” in 3 different environments, where the Emirati person was distinguished by wisdom and good use of natural resources and innately rationalized consumption, which helped him survive and continue to live in the harsh conditions of different environments, whether in the oases or the coast or desert. The gallery includes a special section of How our ancestors lived in:
 

  • Abu Dhabi Oasis
    Al-Ain Oasis & Liwa Oasis and what are the similarities in these two oases where the residents relied on palm trees to form a rich source of food and shelter and an important resource in making their daily needs from traditional furniture and homes such as Al-Arish, and also the oases section includes the story of the aflaj and wells.
     
  • The Desert
    It contains Bedouin customs and traditions of making coffee, weaving Sadu, falconry, and camel rides. The section also focuses on UAE heritage, which was included in the United Nations list of moral and tangible heritage.
     
  • Abu Dhabi Coast
    It is the last section in how our people lived near the Abu Dhabi coast, the tools used for pearl diving and fishing, and how commercial exchange was a means of cultural communication.

Presents future projects for Abu Dhabi, which are divided into 3 major projects:
 

  • The first project: 
    Abu Dhabi Vision 2030, which includes the vision for the future city of Al Ain, aims to support culture and tourism and maintain the city of Al Ain as a sustainable oasis for the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
     
  • The second project:
    Highlights the story of Sheikh Zayed Desert Learning Centre for Desert Sciences and modern technologies used to reduce water consumption and electrical energy and rely on alternative energy such as solar energy.
     
  • The third project: 
    It is the story of Masdar City, where the screen displays comprehensive information about the city of Masdar, being the first city of its kind in sustainability. It has achieved the sustainability award at the level of four pearls. The exhibition also contains an awareness section aimed at spreading sustainability, energy and water conservation, and recycling at the level of Abu Dhabi residents in their homes, where sustainability is achieved through the efforts of the Abu Dhabi government through projects, plans, and efforts of individuals.
